 ICC WORLD CUP NEW FORMAT

The ICC has introduced a new format for the World Cup, which will be implemented for the 2027 World Cup as well as the T20 World Cup; this format differs from the previous format.

Men's ODI World Cup - New Format ?

Under the new format, 14 teams will participate, whereas there were only 10 teams in the previous World Cup. The last World Cup was held in 2015, which featured 14 teams.

1st round- This World Cup will be played across four rounds, making the tournament even more exciting! the first round will feature the teams ranked 12th, 13th, and 14th, with only one team qualifying for the subsequent round or second round.

2nd Round- Twelve teams will play in the second round; eleven of these will be already selected based on ICC rankings (the top 11), while the remaining team will qualify from the first round.In this round, two groups will be formed, each consisting of six teams; the top three teams from each group will qualify for the next round and also qualifying one team accross both groups based on thier position in both groups where total 7 teams are played against each other.

3rd Round- There will be a total 7 teams in Round 3 and playing against each other, top four teams will qualify for Round 4 ( semi-final).

4th Round- Top four teams will be played semi-final - 1st vs 4th and 2nd vs 3rd and winner of both semi-final played final.


Men's T20 World Cup

The Men's T20 World Cup will feature 20 teams just as before however, they will be divided into 5 groups of 4 teams eachand super 8 will be replaced by super 10, whereas previously there were 4 groups of 5 teams. In this, only the top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super 10.

The teams that qualify for the Super 10 stage will be divided into two groups of five teams each, the top teams from both groups will advance directly to the semi-finals, while the teams finishing second and third in their respective groups will play eliminator matches, similar to the IPL format- 2nd from A vs 3rd from B and 3rd from A vs 2nd from B and winner of both eliminator qualify for semifinals.

Those four teams qualifying for semis will played semi-final followed by final.
